20/20 Experience – Day 1 | Haley Dreis Music

“20/20” Album Experience – Welcome to Day 1! ?

So let’s dive in! Here’s what inspired me to write this album and how I recorded it (at home!):

The first song on the EP is “20/20” – here’s what’s behind the song:

In the true spirit of 20/20, I decided to film a music video as a virtual and international collab! The video was brought to life by Lennon Leppert (who produced the song and filmed my performance video shots), a collection of timely footage from all over the world, and co-directed & edited in Tokyo by our talented friend Masahide Tsurumoto. Let’s just say it took a lot of creativity to socially-distance-film it (is that a thing? omg :D) The visuals are my attempt to share my perspective and make sense of all that we’ve endured this year; and it felt important to create and document it.

I hope you enjoy the music video!

Lyrics:

Verse 1:

The world was spinning and then stopped

2020’s pretty fucked

All of our plans

That we could’nt have

Are running away

Finish line

A new starting time

New normal, they say

Hope you’re ready for change

This must be a kind of rude mistake

But I can live without the rat race

And I’m not missing

All of the noise

All of the madness

Running through my brain

Where do I go?

I’d be on to the next place…

But I’m not ready for change

Chorus:

Looking outside and I’m seeing kind of blurry

Where are we?

It’s 2020

And I’m looking at time like in rewind

Here we are now

Didn’t see it coming

If it’s all a mystery.

Should we blame it on Mercury?

Looking back now out of left field

And in hindsight

It’s 20/20

I hear the silence in the streets

Boarded buildings and boutiques

I can’t believe they’re

Putting up signs on all of the doors

Stay six feet

All of my friends

Haven’t seen in awhile

Catching up on screens

While we’re stuck in between

[Chorus]

Bridge:

change change change

Ooh, I had a vision thought it would be perfect

Can’t predict the future, really makes me nervous

If all we have is now, I’m gonna make it worth it

[Chorus]

End:

Not gonna make plans

Trying not to give a damn
